Ingredients

For the Peach Filling

  • 6 cups fresh peaches peeled and sliced (about 6–7 peaches)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Serving

Vanilla ice cream (optional)

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • 2 mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Peeler
  • Sharp kitchen knife

Method

  1. Instructions
  2. Preheat the Oven
  3. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Have a 9×13-inch baking dish ready.
  4. Prepare the Peaches
  5. Place the peeled and sliced peaches in a mixing bowl. Add ½ cup of granulated sugar and the lemon juice.
  6. Gently toss until the peaches are evenly coated. Set aside while you prepare the batter.
  7. Add the Melted Butter
  8. Pour the melted butter into the baking dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom.
  9. Prepare the Cobbler Batter
  10. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, remaining ½ cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  11. Add the milk and vanilla extract. Whisk gently until combined and no dry flour remains.
  12. Pour the Batter
  13. Slowly pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish.
  14. Do not stir the batter into the butter. Keeping the layers separate helps create the cobbler's characteristic texture.
  15. Add the Peaches
  16. Spoon the peaches and their juices evenly over the batter.
  17. Do not stir. The batter will rise around the peaches as the cobbler bakes.
  18. Bake the Cobbler
  19. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45–50 minutes.
  20. The topping should become golden brown, the edges should be bubbling, and the cake-like portions should be cooked through.
  21. Insert a toothpick into a thick area of the topping, away from the fruit. It should come out without wet batter.
  22. Let It Rest
  23. Remove the cobbler from the oven and let it rest for 10–15 minutes.
  24. This allows the bubbling peach juices to settle and thicken slightly before serving.
  25. Serve and Enjoy
  26. Spoon the warm peach cobbler into individual bowls.
  27. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired, and serve while warm.
